Week 6 – MBA 6601 – Becoming Adept with AI
(OpenAI, 2024)
To become adept with AI, you need
to take steps to get there. The first step is adapting, which involves reading
articles and books about AI. However, this is a habit that people will need to
develop. It is important to read about current trends in AI and other things
that interest you, as it could lead to taking certain actions. For example, you
can find a certain topic and want to look further into it. As you become more
interested in AI or other things, you may start to realize that you can adopt
what you are reading into your personal or work life. AI can be used to
automate routine tasks, if you are a manager, you can think about introducing
the company you work for to adopt AI. This will allow the company to assign new
work to its employees that will be more productive for them and the
organization. The final step is to be adept with AI or things you are
interested in.
To be adept with AI and other
things you are interested in, you need to learn the skills and tools to become
adept. To learn AI, Kelsey (2018) suggests learning the roots of artificial
intelligence and learning the core skills needed to use/develop AI (p. 121).
Fortunately, there are many free sources that an individual can use. You can
use Coursera, DataCamp, and Khan Academy or watch YouTube videos of experts,
such as Andrew Ng to learn more about AI (p. 126-133). I have always wanted to
learn coding and I have used a YouTube channel called freeCodeCamp.org that
provides free videos to learn Phyton coding. The great thing about these free
sources is that they allow individuals to gain core skills for AI and what is
needed to be a data scientist. Kelsey (2018) suggests acquiring the following
skills and knowledge on programming, quantitative analysis, product intuition,
communication, teamwork, data science algorithms, experimental design, machine
learning, deep learning, R, tableau, and Phyton (p142-143). These will give you
a great foundation of knowledge about AI and how it works.
Let’s slow down a bit, there is a
lot to learn about AI and skills to master. As I mentioned earlier, we should
begin reading about artificial intelligence and what it is capable of doing.
Once you find a topic interesting and want to get involved with it, it would be
best to start with learning the core skills and knowledge first. From there an
individual can search for videos or use any of the free sources to learn about
the topic and the skills needed. Coursera is a great place to learn about AI,
DataCamp is a great place to learn about Data scientists, and Khan Academy is a
great place to learn about math and programming (Kelsey, 2018, p. 132-133). If
you are not great with math or if it has been a while since you used math, Khan
Academy is a great source to re-learn math concepts or you can purchase books
that will teach you how to do algebra. Of course, this does need to be applied
to AI only. This can be used within your career, so you can learn new skills
and methods to solve current problems facing in your field of profession. It is
important to read about what is going on in the business world and your field,
so you pivot your career and be ahead of everyone else. This will provide you
with the opportunity to be marketable and find a new job. However, this is only
possible if you take steps to learn the new skills.
